Assignment #15- Final Reflection

LAST BLOG....

Through out this semester, I feel my writing has improved a little. As I mention in my first blog post, writing take time and effort to mastered. From the past fifteen week I had to write different types of essays. English 101 has taught me many great strategies when it come down to write essays.  I feel that my writing skill still need improvement. I hope to improve my writing by utilizing the writing center and perhaps on exchanging papers with future classmates to revise.
This has been a very unexceptional semester for me. As a writer, I have gained a lot more confidence in my writing, But my ultimate goal looking back of these essay that wrote this semester and  compare it to paper that write later in college. I feel strongly that I will continue to improve over the years and I truly look forward to making this transition.

Assignment #14- Planning for Revisions

The paper I chosen to revised is my first essay, the literacy narrative. I chose to revise this essay because when writing this essay, I felt great confidence writing this essay. I thought my essay was great, but after receiving my feedback and final grade I understand what I did wrong. In order for me to make this essay better, I will stay in topic, make paragraph organized in better structure, and ask few classmate to revise my paper.

Assignment #13- Analyzing and Writing Arguments

I analyzed "Don't Presume to Know a Pig's Mind " In that essay, The writer started out with a Chipotle advertisement to show different view point of two business of how their treated the animals. . The writer argues that its does not matter how framers raise the animal, its still going to end up as meal. Also he explain, If this process is happening the price of meat will be high-priced. I believe the reason why he picked these strategies, so he could have his point stated and this leads towards with straightforward answer.

Assignment #12- Thinking Critically About Evidence

Why should fine art be a general education requirement? Most college students has taken introduction course of fine arts in high school. The reason for targeting on fine art, Most high school graduates have took a fine art class in high school.

  • My most compelling evidence
  • Students finds it to be a waste of time, due to the fact that most high school graduates took fine arts classes in high school. There are no needs to review these fundamentals course.  Also by removing fine art can less stress help college student to be focus on Major

  • My weakest evidence
  • Critics may say that taking fine arts course in college go more in depth, can help undecided students to major or minor in one of these categories. But from past experience, I took four-years of music in high school. After taking these classes, I was not interest becoming music major or minor.

Assignment #11- Patterns of Error

So far, my writing has been getting a ton of errors. First, whenever I'm writing my paper, I need to explain more in my writing. Most comments that I receive from peer review that my introduction shows lack of details. This effect my writing by not being clear for my reader and makes it hard to understand. Second, I tend to be excessively wordy in my papers! This is shoddy habit that I have and need to improve it. I guess reason why I do this because I want to meet requirement of the page. Finally, transition from paragraph to paragraph. My transitions does not show that connecting flow towards the next paragraph. Without transitions my will be very stiff to read.
In order for me to avoid these errors I can write out a rough draft and review it or lets a classmate review it.  Even though, I make these mistakes constantly I need to push myself and pay attention to what I'm writing.

Assignment #10- Thinking Critically About Peer Review

So far, peer review in class has been very helpful for me. I don't know how it could be improve better? It just great as it is. My only strengths for peer review is helping writer to be more concise. My weakness for peer review, finding grammar mistakes. I remember a time when a student asked me to revise their paper, I helped that person making his paper sound great! But the final grade was "C+" because I didn't found all grammar mistakes. Another weakness for peer review, I sometime don't give full feedbacks. The reason I don't give out my full feedbacks, because I don't any have confidences on my feedbacks. I believe that my feedbacks could be wrong.
I find it helpful to do peer review for earlier stages of the writing process. This helps students share idea with classmates. For examples, This week small groups has prepare me for my third essay assignment. At first it was really hard what to write about, but working in small groups has really show that we work together this assignment could be easy. We shared our opinions towards each other and I believe that was great. I believe the amount of time was great for the small groups.

Assignment #8- Thinking About Arguments

The article that I read was, "Don’t presume to know a pig’s mind". The reason I chose this article, when seeing the pigs being pumped with antibiotics and processed into machine has opened my mind.

For my paper, I don't know what to write about. The reason why I picked article, because I found this to be interesting then the others. I guess I could write about how this article show that pigs are mistreated in order for the farmer's companies to make money for their business.

Assignment #6 (Make-Up)

Rhetorical situation of my advertisement analysis essay shows context. For example, how the axe has targets young male by showing how standard men, using axe’s grooming products, can grab attention of attractive woman. The purpose of Axe are to persuade young male to buying their products.
This will affect my paper by showing how axe set someone's mind at their products. Hopefully, my trustworthy tone toward this can help my reader of what I'm try to convince my stamens towards Axe products.

Week 7...We Are Almost At The End...

As we move close toward the middle of the semester, I notices that my writing has been improving little by little. As look back at my first blog, My goals are to communicate though writing and understanding the writing skills that are demand at college level.
From what could I tell, when I communicate with my cellular device, email, etc, I notices I been spelling out words and using complete sentences. I got out that bad habit spelling words like “u” and spelled it the proper way, “you.”  I am proud to say, Writing 101 has made me a better writer when it comes communicating through writing.
I am proud with Professor Spencer teaching this course. Blogging and peer-editing are still helping me becoming a better writer. I see myself making improvements in my other courses beside English 101 when it comes to writing. Blogging has help me see my writing from the first week of the semester till now. While looking at past blog post, I see improvements towards writing. Furthermore, peer-editing has been very helpful to me. Getting response from other students are a great way of becoming a better writer. Getting comments has help me to give more details and being concise toward my writing. I believe this is a great way to build confidence in my writing.

Analyzing an Advertisement

  1. Purpose-The purpose of this advertisements shows, how a young male teenager used this grooming product can lead him to attractive females.
  2. Audience-This advertisement target young male teenagers. This product shows effect of the smell can increase their chances to grab female’s attention.
  3. Genre-I would describe this genre to be persuading. Axe’s wants males to buy it in order to get female attention.
  4. Tone-This advertisement shows logic by giving definition of Axe’s products. I believe that advertisers want to show how the effect of their products works.

BLOG #4

When I compare my rough drafts and final draft, I notices that my first draft of my literary narrative I was off topic. Even though I wasn’t an excellent writer, I reread my literacy narrative and reorganization my thoughts to make my paper sound more fitting. It took me a few days to finish my second draft. For my second draft, I let one of my classmate to review my second draft. When I received my second draft, I notices I had a tons of grammar mistakes, and fragment sentences.
When revising my literary narrative, I notices fragment sentences and grammar I have trouble with. I know as a writer, I always forget the grammar rules. Grammar rules can be very tricky for me. As for fragment sentences, I sometimes forgot to put a subject or verb in sentences. As a college writer, I should be doing some grammar reviews.
From what I learned, peer reviewing with an other classmate was great way to get a response on my literacy narrative. It helps me on what I need to work on as a college writer. In sum I hope to believe that final draft is great. From what I could tell that my final draft sounds better from the other drafts.

What are the differences between a C paper and an A paper?

What are the differences between a C paper and an A paper? An A paper shows that you meet the highest standard of your writing. What I mean by this, An A paper shows that your paper is well stated, organize that your readers can understand, and sentence structure is perfect.
  • Well-stated paper-A well-stated papers shows you understand the topic and gave supporting details. For examples, if the topic was “How’s joint oil pipeline is going to effect our country?” I would support this by saying, “The benefits of creating a joint oil pipeline between United State and Canada will help to give jobs to thousands of people and help decease the unemployment rate that this country is facing.”
  • Organization-Organization in writing show hows your idea are being presented. This inform your readers of what your going to talk. For examples, “In this proposal, I’m going to show how the joint oil pipeline will benefits our country in numerous ways.” Also it help writers to stay in topic.
  • Sentence structure-To achieve an A on your paper, you need have good grammar skills. With less grammar mistakes your paper will be understandable towards your readers.

After describing these points, The most I feel comfortable with organization. Before I write I brainstorm my ideas and explains how I’m going to present them. On the other hand, Well-stated and sentence structure are my weakest skill. Sometime I always make common mistakes like my past tense and sometime my papers are well-stated.

Blog #2

For this week, I have been gathering ideas for my literacy narratives assignment.
The first topic, I can write about my experience with Jazz. This topic will be great for explaining why I listen and play Jazz. The advantages for writing this topic, I can explain how I got into to jazz, and describing how this type of music express me. However, the disadvantage of writing this paper could be very dull for most of my audience. From what I could tell, not that many people listen to jazz. This will be challenging for me to give vivid details of why I like Jazz.
The second topic, My experience in college. This is a good topic for me, because is an event that is currently in place. I can explain my transition from high school to college, and what I learned from the past semester. However, I believe most audience will be current college students will know that college is a big transition, and also students knows the experience being in college for the first time.

The final topic, I could write about my favorite television show when I was young boy. Spider-Man was my favorite television show when I was a young. I used to watch this show everyday when I was young right after school. However, I believe this won't be a good idea to write about, because I don't remember why I liked this show and I assume this is an appropriate topic to discuss in my literacy narratives assignment.

Why I'm taking English 101

The reason I register for English: Writing 101 are for the following reasons: improve my ability to communicate though writing and understanding the writing skills that are demand at college level. From what I can tell, writing can be a tough challenge for some people including myself. At first I thought that writing isn’t a big deal in life, but then again, I was wrong. What changes my mind that I discover that most career and jobs are looking for people with great writing skills. Writing skills shows how good you are with proper English and show the you can communicate though writing.
I believe that Northeastern Illinois University made a good choices for putting me in this course. My goals for this semester are to improve on my writing, so students and teachers could understand what I’m trying to discuss and moving beyond five-paragraphs essay to a multiple paragraphs essay. To achieve these goals, I need remember that being a good writer requires a tons of practices. I can practices by making more then one draft of essays, proofreading my essay, and going to the NEIU Writing Lab for additional help. If I achieve those goals I will be pleased and honor that I took that course. I believe this course is preparing me when I’m taking other courses in the future.
